instead of tutoring like an expert, i tutor like a teacher. from over ten years of experience, i have learned how to individualize instruction by determining how a student processes, analyzes, and communicates information. i completed a masters in Early Childhood Development as an undergraduate at Washington & Lee University while earning a degree in Mathematics and a minor in Creative Writing.
math has always been fascinating to me, so learning about the multiple types of infinities and how we use them to create the internet was so much fun. however, ever since i was in middle school, i have tutored students. it was not a formal experience until i volunteered as a tutor for the ESL afterschool program in high school. in college, i worked with the Spanish Department to create a Spanish curriculum for the local public elementary schools. i observed and analyzed how children process and analyze the lessons teachers give in school, in a variety of settings.
it has been my pleasure to work with students of all ages, helping them improve their foundations in math, writing, and Spanish. one of my greatest joys is helping students be excited when they submit a college application. from my experience working in a college's Admissions Office, i learned that raising test scores and polishing essays are just the first steps to make admission counselors make note of your application.
when i am not a tutor, i try to be outside - at the beach, on a mountainside, walking my dog - wherever! i love portrait photography and cinema, which are great when i don't want to be so active. my favorite book recommendation is Flatland by Edwin Abbott.
