early childhood development
ages four to eight
now more than ever, young students are below grade level due to distance learning. online classes have proved how important individualized attention is for your child to learn effectively.
reading, writing, and arithmetic are the foundations of education, and mastering these skills during this developmental age is imperative for a child's educational success. experts say all students learn at variable speeds, so it is important for educators to understand where a child is developmentally in order to provide appropriate leveled instruction.
as a parent concerned about your child's progress, it is important to understand that not all children respond to the "one size fits all" approach used in classrooms. as a kindergarten teacher, i was trained to observe students, identify their needs, and develop an educational plan that is unique for each student. every student deserves individualized instruction, which is one of the reasons i stopped teaching and started tutoring.
mathematics
all grade levels
the main reason students fall behind in math can be traced back to their experience with Pre-Algebra. i focus on the fundamentals: Numerical Fluency, Fraction Arithmetic, and the foundational laws of Algebra. applying the foundational laws of Algebra is a step-by-step process.
chunking is the process of breaking down a complex problem into a series of simple problems, and it is a critical technique to help students stay grounded and confident when learning how to solve equations, graph functions, and simplify algebraic expressions.
mastering these fundamentals of math will help students learn new skills in class.
writing
all grade levels
learning how to be an effective communicator in the workforce starts with learning how to write a persuasive essay. like mathematics, chunking is a crucial skill to writing persuasively.
with more reports, essays, and projects assigned during the high school years, the need for your teen to rise to the demands of higher-level writing is more important now than ever before. especially with college plans on the horizon, your child will need these skills to write persuasive and effective college application essays.
my goal for each session is for your child get their thoughts and ideas on paper in the most effective, persuasive, and organized manner possible. we do this by strengthening fundamental skills, like sentence structure and punctuation, while building new skills in composition, like paraphrasing and analyzing.
español
all grade levels
learning a language is one of the hardest skills to learn. when it comes to grading, students learn there is a right and wrong answer for every question, but this black and white lens is confusing when learning a language. studying language is more than direct translations - it is the study of an entire culture, and how it is shaped by the way the language is spoken.
sharing my insights of the Spanish language and culture helps students understand the nuanced differences in speaking Spanish. most importantly, i will make sure your child knows the Spanish alphabet - it's all about the fundamentals.

the process of applying to college should be fun! this experience is the culmination of all your child's hard work and the place where they will spend the next four formative years of their life.
the pressure to submit the "perfect application" and get into the "perfect school" haunts every student and parent. almost every student benefits from test prep and increasing those scores is the first step towards creating your strongest application.
more importantly, i learned from my work in an Admissions Office which steps students can take to make any college notice your child's application.
